Research

Our research lab consisting of ~67% women, mostly PhDs, uses computational modeling of typically cognitive based (human mind) phenomenon such as AI modelling and studying Meaning, Semantics and Thought. These are typically in the cognitive areas of Creativity (in general and in new creativity systems, Expression (like facial & body expression, speaking, thinking, empathy and behavior (human and animal). Much of these systems we code, use advanced AI and at times advanced sensing systems and have applications in Health, Education, AI Coaches, Anonymization, the emerging and interactive Arts, talking and expressive Virtual Humans and VR, XR Environments/Avatars and AI Ethics ( eg Gender, Climate Change, …).

Browse our interconnected ‘cogs meets AI’, human centric areas, with videos and papers:

AI Modeling Thought & Language

Cognitive modelling of thought, expression and language using advanced AI systems like AI Knowledge Graphs of thought and chained RAG based LLMs.

Semantic Meaning & Analysis

Cognitive based anaylsis and modelling of deep Semantic Meaning.

Sensing Humans (Bio/Brain/Face/Movement/VR)

Sensing the human for a more human centric approach for analysis and interaction. Bio ( heart, …), brain, facial, body, hand sensing for interactive and VR.

AI Virtual Humans

For real-time/VR AI singularly or multiuser environments especially where mindfulness and wellness are a goal.

AI Anonymization

Researched and created a wholly new AI techniques to anonymize interview subjects and scenes in regular and 360 videos.

AI Cognitive Creativity

AI modelling aspects of human creativity in AI using cognitive science as a basis for our work.

AI Modeling Animals

AI modelling of the behavoir (thinking, movement, expression, …) of animals and humans.

XR Avatars; Edu, Coaches, Health

XR (VR/AR/3D) systems where a user can expressive as talking 3D avatar with gestures/facial expressions. For education, coaches and health.

AI Ethics: Gender

Work and studies in gender issues with AI and Embodied VR.

AI Ethics: Climate

Studying and reporting on the climate implications of rapidly developing Ai usage.

AI-based Exploration of Art and Design

Cognitive science based AI techniques (creativity, aesthetics, sensing, movement) – heralding in new forms of art and design exploration.

AI and Cognitive Health

Cognitive AI techniques using neuroimaging procedures and machine learning approaches for the prediction of conversion from mild cognitive impairment to Alzheimers disease dementia.
